We Like Ourselves Some Mexican...

Amy introduced us to a place she likes to go, that's not terribly far from our place, La Loma's. They make their own tortillas right there and the kids LOVE to watch them come down the conveyor belt and flip into the pile. The tortilla-making gal even gave them a ball of dough to play with, which my kids proceeded to eat.

The food has been devoured - or at least the kids' meals have - and we're getting antsy.

I don't know why I ever look at the menu when we go out for Mexican. I almost always end up ordering the chicken enchiladas. There was a place across the street from one of my college apartments that had great seafood enchiladas.... Unfortunately, they closed down and I live 1000 miles away from there now anyways.

In the other direction, there is Que Bueno - for which we have some awesome coupons. The place turns into a dance club (Club Sheer?) after the dinner hours and seems to be a pretty class club....not that I've been there dancing. It's been far too many YEARS since the last girls weekend. *ahem* They have some really yummy salsas. I especially like their green verde sauce?

Finally, don't you just love when you get laughing so hard you forget what was actually funny in the first place? Yeah, we're just lucky he (or we?) didn't pee his pants.

Btw, I've been having trouble commenting - even on my own blogs. Blogger was telling me I didn't have access or permission to access whatever page, then kept making me log in over and over again. If you're having the same troubles.... When you log in, uncheck the "remember me" box. For some reason it makes Blogger forget you when you're commenting?

Oooooo-ooo, Lunch!

My first lunch with ONLY Nellie! We were waiting for B-Bee to get out of summer camp and grabbed a bite to eat at the A&W / KFC around the block. We waited forever in line because of a computer problem the registers were having. The whole time Nellie was tugging at my shirt and saying "Ooooo-ooob". I'm sure all the men in line with me (and there were only men) were wondering if I was going to feed her right there in line. ....but I knew I would need my hands available soon enough for lunch.

YoYos & Pupus

Our morning started off with some headband modeling, since I had finished some new ones the night before. Here you can see the giant pink peonie / gardenia. I love this one, but it must come with the warning label of "massive". It's lightweight and looks oh so darling, but it is 6" in diameter and that is a lot when you're talking about a head circumference of only 14" or so. Definitely a special occassions headband and it photographs really well.

Our morning agenda was to go see yoyo tricks at the Perl Mack. It was cool to see, but I think my kids were a little bit young to fully appreciate it. Nellie was squirmy and just wanted to beeline to the exit, the emergency exit. And B-Bee was right there with her crawling on the floor encouraging her and being Wild Man....and he would have opened that door for her. That girl just loves to be outside and loves to go. Overall, B-Bee behaved fairly well. I just had my hands kind of full with Nellie.

Found something a little more age-appropriate....the playground outside! There were a couple older kids playing and a summer camp group came over to eat lunch, and all the kids were well behaved. (After the YMCA kids incident on a playground last year, it's nice to see a big kids summer camp group behaving.) Nellie stood around the bottom of the slide, watching and laughing at the big kids. B-Bee was intent on learning how to do the monkey bars. He was good at swinging on them, but hasn't the strength yet to actually go across them. I can relate to his frustrations.

We need to go grocery shopping in a major, major way.... so to avoid the McD's we found ourselves a pupu platter for lunch. B-Bee enjoyed attempting to blow out our little fire. The harder we blowed, the more it burned. Don't know what crystals were in there as fuel, but we had to just let them burn out. The waitress was amused when I pulled out my little baggie of crayons and colored the animals on the placemat with B-Bee.



Nellie woke up from carseat-nap in time for dessert. Usually this chinese restaurant brings out these delicious cut oranges, cold & juicy. Today they had watermelon slices, which the kids happily ate up.

Dog Tired

It's been a busy, busy day and I think we pretty much went non-stop - besides the small break trying to get Nellie down for a nap. First up was the Mid-America Boston Terrier Birthday Bash that we go to every year. It was well attended this year and perfect weather. With 2 dogs and 2 little kids, my sister and I had our hands full. Daddy ran sound & DJ'd the event, but he was able to help watch "the kids" some. We would leave him with a dog or child and take the other ones around. Charlie (all black dog) entered the tricks contest, but then wouldn't stand or dance. It was okay though, there were 3 other dogs there that danced the same anyways. Charlie decided to shake hands instead - knew there was no way I would get him to army crawl or play dead in the grass. At nearly the last minute, I decided to buy a few raffle tickets and had B-Bee decide which buckets (had a bucket for each prize) to put them into. We ended up winning 2 prizes! B-Bee was super happy when I handed him the Boston Terrier sculpture and I love the watercolor print we won. As you can see here (above) when all was said & done, we all loaded back into the car....exhausted but still eager to watch out the window for a few blocks.

After an afternoon of yardwork, deck deconstruction, gardening & playing, we decided to treat ourselves at our favorite Indian restaurant. MmmmMmmm.... they even had Tibetan Momos on the buffet, though they weren't spicy like they are if you order them off the menu.

In 2 days my parents will be here.... The thought of getting the basement cleaned for them to stay with us and rebuilding the deck (with their help) is too much for my exhausted mind to think about right now.
